My name is L. Prenell Johnson, artist, sculptor, and although my artistic interests range from painting to ceramics arts, my passion for sculpture is most prevailing.
I currently hold a Bachelor of Fine Art degree, and a Masters of Fine Art in Visual Studies degree with a concentration in sculpture. My work has been published in an article written in the Arthritis Research Foundation magazine, work which focuses on the issues of Arthritis, and its effects on the daily lives of the elderly.
My foundation as an artist began at age nine and continued throughout my adult years. When I think back over my childhood, there is no doubt that my mother's creative spirit influenced me greatly. I remember watching her in awe, as she would meticulously sketch, make quilts and crochet. Seeing the final product was worth the time spent as I sat patiently, watching every step in her processes.
The experience with watching my mother eventually led me to art classes, and a greater desire to peruse art as a career. After becoming an adult, I would go on to work in the corporate world for twenty-three years, until I finally heard the call of my passion, art. I completed my BA and MFA degrees, and embarked on a career as an art educator.
Currently I an art instructor for Churchland High, school for the Visual and Performing Arts, a school for students who may or may not be interested in pursuing a career in the visual or performing arts. For those who are interested, our goal is to prepare them for some of the top art schools and programs in the country, while keeping academics at the forefront.
As an educator and professional artist, it is very difficult to find time to work on my own creative ideas however, I have been fortunate enough to manage my time to keep up with the growing demands of gallery representation.
